Dear Members
On the 7th March I was advised to close the club until further notice due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
In that time I have seen many positive actions from coaches and members alike. Who knew what “Zoom” was beforehand, virtual races or how many fantastic wildlife photographers we have in the club.
In recent weeks restrictions have started to be relaxed. With guidance from UK Athletics we have started a low level phased return to some types of coaching and training.
I must stress that with any training or coached sessions that are arranged, you must come to your own conclusion if this right for you at this point in time.
A plan is being formulated on how we can organise small group runs outside of the college grounds, I will update you in the coming weeks.
The track is an amazing facility that we have access to. With the support and blessing of Tavistock College, Tavistock Police and UKA representatives, COVID-19 Risk assessments in line with government advice and UKA have been put in place and are under constant review.
The track is being controlled by an appointment only system. Slots are available 17.00-21.00 evenings and 9.00-17.00 Saturday and Sunday. For more information speak with your coach or contact me via the club contact page on the website. Please do not enter the track if you haven’t got a pre-arranged slot.
We are all getting used to a new world and a different way of doing things, some actions will stay, others may fade with time.
Over the coming months I hope that additional club activities will be organised within the national guidance of social distancing. If social distancing and operating in small groups is here to stay, then I feel we can work within these guidelines to allow the club to operate. Even in the darkest days the Government recognised daily exercise outdoors and keeping sociable to help with our mental health was key; it was one of the few things we could all do as a nation.
We’ve got a lot of converted runners out in the community ready to prove themselves in an event, we are the club to show them how to channel their talents.
Regards to all
Keep safe
